Tensions between India and Germany?

SECURITY COUNCIL, Nov 14th—As all of the Security Council (SC) delegates are working towards a reform resolution, tensions among certain countries have emerged.

The Republic of India has stated in previous SGMUN 2020 UNSC sessions that it wishes for African nations to have a higher representation in the United Nations (UN) body.

Supporting Germany’s view on having the P5 restrict their veto power, India entertained the thought of having a semi-permanent seat in the UNSC.

Whilst India seems to be sharing Germany’s opinions, the delegation of the Indian Republic stated that it does not however have faith in the resolution that Germany has suggested.

DELEGATION OF INDIA, JULIA HUFNAGEL --“[The Delegation of India does] not think that the paper Germany proposed will pass”.

The direct quotation by India suggests that the country doubts the power of the German delegation and does not believe in a sufficient result.

The question then arises whether or not Germany is aware of India’s views and whether or not Germany will be willing to work together should India’s opinion continue.

China abstained from participating between India’s and Germany’s discussion and wished to have a collaborative team for an efficient goal.
