Russia blocks Libya's Peace
UNSC fails to implement its resolution on Libyan peace processes after Russia successfully exercises its veto right. After one and a half day of debating and drafting a resolution to advance the Libyan peace process, the UN Security Council leaves its sixth session empty handed. According to the United States of America and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland the resolution addressed all important points in order to advance Libyan peace processes.
Many council members assumed that the resolution was supported by all permanent UNSC members, yet the voting revealed the truth. However, some members sensed a discord and tried to avoid Russia's veto through a motion to divide the question. That motion did not pass and resulted in a failed resolution. To quote Tunisia and the opinion of many other members: “We are absolutely disgusted that our motion did not pass.”
