Egypt applauds China’s work on behalf of all African nations
SECURITY COUNCIL, Nov 14th – The Security Council has been considering a reform since the year 1993.
Instead of modernization of considerably the most powerful United Nations body – the Security Council (UNSC), its functioning has remained the same since the year 1945, despite the fact that almost a century has passed since the body’s foundation.
The People’s Republic of China believes in change.
The delegate of China has emphasized the desire to have a wider representation of African and Latin American nations, which “is more than deserved and the minimal expectation from the countries in the year 2020”.
Countries like the Federal Republic of Germany strongly contested the idea and has expressed concern for African and Latin American countries having a strong role in the Security Council.
Egypt, rightfully so, responded with disappointment towards Germany, stating that the Arab Republic of Egypt has supported Germany throughout history despite being taken advantage of its resources in the past.
DELEGATE OF EGYPT, MOHAMMAD MEHTAR – “China is working hand in hand with Egypt to reach a solution for reform while reassuring the African demands for permanent representation on the council. We find this very interesting especially since the Western world doesn’t recognize this necessity”.
The delegation of China, reiterated in a response that a reform with a stronger African representation is more than deserved and should be viewed as the bare minimum from the West.
China is therefore open to finding any solutions in which the African and Latin American countries play a stronger role in the UNSC.
China’s views were seconded by the Russian Federation, Brazil and Japan.
