The Digital Age: Challenges and solutions

The G20 committee gathered yesterday (November 19th) to discuss the challenges and solutions for digital access in the developing countries, mainly in the rural areas. The main goal is to provide concrete solutions and means for a digital approach worldwide, and specifically in the UK while promoting “essential digital skills” in the agenda of reducing unemployment with the use of e-commerce and e-finance.

"e-commerce and e-finance are important, we should normalize the use of them to avoid unemployment. We believe we should create more job opportunities and help the people in need with the financial aspect”, said prime minister Johnson.

Today’s reality demands from the world’s leaders to assemble together around the new situation that has been created: technological gaps and challenges in the different countries.  The main goals of the debate today was to promote access to technology all around the world, mostly with the use of education, specifically educating the youth in what called in the UK as “essential digital skills”: the ability to communicate online, handle information and content, make transactions, problem solve and be safe and legal on the Internet. Secondly, the UK is looking to create jobs and help to resolve the problem of unemployment through e-commerce, this is because there is now a high use of e-commerce around the world and the increasing interest for these companies, so we believe that e-commerce could help to decrease the unemployment rate around the world.

The members of the committee discussed the sustainability aspects of digital access, the importance of enabling access and digital means for populations in need in developing countries and finding solutions such as funding and special programs to help them. Moreover, the Cyber security issue has been discussed.

Overall, the G20 committee had a fruitful discussion and some conclusions had been made.

At this moment, we hope to see concrete solutions soon that can really help the populations in need significantly.
