Spice in UNICEF After Second Press Conference
This morning the UNICEF committee was heating up as delegates accused other delegates eventually returning to recurrent problems of colonization and funding issues.
The delegation of Russia denied allegations made claiming that there is no evidence to back up claims. Regarding the bombs targeted at schools and hospital the Russian delegation replied by characterizing the operations as part of a so called “liberal mission”, attempting to manipulate the views of them as an aggressor. This claim was disappointing as many question the ethical implications of this act.
On the other hand, Mali, Sudan and Yemen explained their situations on how they handle terrorism. The delegation of Mali proudly announced their accomplishments in battling terrorism emphasizing that they had freed many cities from rebellion groups although they were unable to name these cities. Yemen tried to emphasize that not all the terrorist groups come from their country and pointed that they come from Saudi Arabia and Oman. Furthermore, Sudan blamed its instability on rebel organization which started as an offshoot of the military government. Despite this Sudan reaffirmed their commitment to continue this fight and maintains a neutral stance.
What was clear is that there is an underlying effect of colonialism in these debates. Many delegations emphasized the long-term consequences of colonial exploitation, sharing that this left them at a power imbalance alluding to increasing funding to them to foster long-term stability
At the end of the day the delegations of each country unanimously agreed that they will come to a resolution by the end of the conference which save the children is pleased to hear and hope that they will save the children!
