COP27 Lost in a Labyrinth
No wonder, the delegate of Greenpeace in the COP27 committee is already depressively sitting on his chair, head down, motivation to debate completely gone, blown away by the numerous speeches about saving our Earth, saving the climate to secure the future of the next generations, bla bla bla…
But one essential skill is missing here: listening to each other. The delegates are certainly talking, but not debating. Merely talking - past each other - not with one another, isn't leading the committee anywhere. Apparently, there is a need for refreshment in communication 101: Delegates, listen carefully to each other. Ask questions if you do not understand anything. Focus on one topic at once. As the delegate of Slovenia already pointed out multiple times: the topic agreed upon is energy dependency and green energy development. As much as we all want to discuss other pressing issues such as the reduction of CO2 emissions, or the compensation for losses and damage that countries experienced because of climate change, you need to concentrate on the chosen topic.
However, don’t be discouraged by my words, dear delegates. I know that you have the ability to hold a truly fruitful debate and I trust you in finding your way out of this labyrinth in order to get to compromises that you can agree upon and that, most importantly, tackle this crucial subject matter. Hopefully, this way you can put a smile back on the face of the delegate from Greenpeace too.
