Suspension regulations in the EBU or genocide: What is the EBU discussing?

The EBU general assembly is once again in session this morning. The delegates did not hesitate to immediately begin a fiery debate. While yesterday the delegates spent most of the morning agreeing on the need for some change and more transparency in the EBU, this was not the case today. Armenia (ARMTV) submitted a motion for a minute of silence for the victims of genocide, with the support of Iceland (RÚV). The delegate further specified exactly which genocides she was speaking of when she turned towards Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan invaded Armenia in 2022 and there has since been a genocide warning in the region. The delegate of Armenia then turned to the back to the rest of the delegates and also stated that the moment of silence would also be for those victim to the genocide in Palestine. This immediately caused a reaction from the delegate of Israel who stated that the situation in Palestine had not officially been recognized as a genocide. When the committee voted on the motion for the moment of silence it failed as only Armenia, Iceland, and Sweden voted in favor. It seems the delegates may have felt that a moment of silence for victims of genocide was too far removed from the topic on the agenda.
